Things We Hate...time for a name change?

Posted by Stephen M. Nipper at February 13, 2006 05:08 PM

Is it just me, or is the "things we hate" title quite hateful? I didn't really intend it to come out that way. It was originally intended as a way for us to list things we wished were different about the www.uspto.gov website. Suggestions. Improvements. Comments.

But yet it has that awful HATE tag.

What do you think? Should we retitle the series to not be so negative? Retire the "hate?"

Steve -- I definitely vote for a name change. True...I do HATE some things about the website...but the purpose of the posts, in my mind, is to highlight areas that could and/or should be improved, not to tell people that certain of our frustrations rise to such a high level of dislike (e.g., hatred). Changing the name would make it easier to bring in some positive comments as well (yes, their are some things I love about the PTO website).

I would probably agree. Although there may be a few things that do rise to that level, the issues brought up so far are just bothersome or annoying.

Stop feeding into American metrosexualism and passive aggressive liberalism. Its ok and normal to be aggressive. If we've gotten to the point, as a society, where even the mere word "hate" frightens us, we won't last much longer as one. It ok, youre not a bad person because you use the word "hate." And if your readers can't handle it then they either need to lighten up or grow some testicles.

Evan -- thanks for the great comment. I agree with you on the general state of "American metrosexualism"...but this is different. We started this series of posts as a means for us to share our frustrations in hopes of encouraging positive change at the Office. The HATE moniker, I think, has the potential to diminish the value of our thoughts because some people, i.e., decision-makers, may choose to ignore it as simple PTO-bashing. We're big fans of the PTO for obvious reasons, and want to help make it better. That's all.
